Nettle Sock Yarn – ONION
Sock-addict, spice up your knitting life with Onion’s Nettle Sock Yarn!
No kidding, this yarn is actually ultra-soft, even if it contains nettle fibers. Indeed, this fiber suitably replaces nylon. This way, you will be able to knit socks made of 100% natural fibers!
Well-known for its durability, nettle fiber also gives a light sheen to this yarn. It is no surprise that it was called “the paupers’ silk” in the ancien times. It indeed has quite a lot of characteristics in common with silk, minus its price.
Plus, as it does not take the yarn in the same way as wool, this original fiber brings a beautiful heathered effect to the yarn it is part of. With its large palette of pretty colours, you must find THE colour suitable for the project you have in mind!
What you need to know about this yarn:
- Weight: fingering
- Composition: 70% superwash wool, 30% nettle fiber
- 185 meters / 50 grams balls (you will need 2 balls to complete a pair of adult socks)
- Available in 24 shades
- Needles 2,5 mm
- Gauge: 28 stitches x 38 rows
- Handwash in cold water
You love the idea of knitting nettle, but you are not a fan of the superwash treatment? Onion has given its Nettle Sock Yarn a cousin, the n°3 Organic Wool + Nettles, and its wool is not only non-superwash, it is also organic.
