Pre-Order: Aki Fuyu Shawl Kit by Kokon
This listing is to pre-order the kit, that will be available at the beginning of February 2021 (every product ordered at the same time will be sent at the same time!)
In need of some comfort to go through the darkest wintery days? Eri Shimizu‘s last shawl design, Aki Fuyu, when knitted with the beautiful colours created by Kokon Yarn, will make you want to wrap yourself in its brioche cozyness, with its soft autumnal or wintery shades, and all this available in a single kit 😉
Actually, the inspiration for this design comes from some photos that Michelle du Plessis, Kokon Yarns’ dyer, took one day while walking through the woods. Then she created colours from what she saw around her, and thus came with two series of seasonal skeins: autumn and winter. The autumn kit, called Aki from the Japanese word for this season, mixes warm shades of copper, yellow, pink… As for the winter kit, or Fuyu, it offers colder yet soft shades: greyish beige, pink, plum… And as usual with Kokon’s yarns, shades that are both deep and muted, with an unique complexity.
The “pattern” part of this beautiful collaboration is also based on the same serie of photos. Indeed, inspired by the architectural beauty of a mushroom lamellae, Eri Shimizu created a highly textured shawl. After some simple brioche rows, you will knit an ondulating pattern, and finish with a pretty lacy trim. A very organic and vegetal design that will take you out for a walk without moving from your sofa!
The kit contains:
- 3 x 100 grams skeins of Kokon Merino Fingering in assorted colours (details given on the photos)
- 1 x 20 grams skein of Kokon Kidsilk Mohair
- a project bag (with a surprise print!)
- the pattern of the shawl, in English and Japanese
This collaboration between a designer, Eri Shimizu, whom patterns are known for their apparent simplicity despite an original construction, and a dyer, Michelle du Plessis, whom deep colours are vibrant despite their muted tones, has given birth to a wonderful shawl. If the pattern in itself can be made by any knitter with a bit of experience, it is based on a visual and tactile texture interplay of the best effect. When combined to the colour fade for which it has been specifically created, Kokon Yarns’ kit for the Aki Fuyu shawl will allow you to knit a real masterpiece, that attracts the eye with its originality, yet staying understated and delicate.
